Abstract*: Im Bundesland Tirol liegen rund 2.600 Almen, die mit einer Gesamtfläche von etwa 6.000 km² über 47 % der Landesfläche Tirols einnehmen. Es gibt eine Vielfalt von Möglichkeiten wie Almen intern strukturiert sein können: Eine Alm kann nur ein Zentrum und keine Leger aufweisen, sie kann aus mehreren Legern bestehen, kann zum Beispiel zwei Niederleger und zwei Hochleger haben und ein Leger kann unter Umständen auch eine Hauptbetriebsnummer inne haben. Als Leger- bzw. Almtypen oder Almfunktionalitäten wurden ausgeschieden: Keine Leger: Darunter sind Almen zu verstehen, die nur ein Almzentrum aufweisen und keine Leger besitzen. Niederleger(NL), Mittelleger (ML), Hochleger (HL), Galtviehleger (GAL), Schafleger (SCHL); Bei der Verortung wurde das Almgebäude, die Almsiedlung bzw. das Almdorf, das als Almzentrum aufgefasst wird, mittels einer Punktverortung erfasst. Sind kein Almgebäude vorhanden, so wurde das Zentrum des Hauptweidegebietes verortet. Die Almzentren sind dem INSPIRE Datenthema Bodennutzung (Annex III) zugeordnet.

Data History*: Die Almen wurden auf analogen 10000-er Orthofoto Karten mit Hilfe der Ortsbauernobmänner verortet und on screen vektorisiert. Im Zuge der Neuaufnahme von Almen in das Tiroler Almbuch werden die neu aufgenommenen Almen auch geografisch verortet.
